    How much does Child Care cost?

    For the 2016-2017 school year, Child Care costs $6 per hour with a second child discount of $5 per hour and the third child is $4 per hour. The program charges based upon what your child is registered for, not what is used. If your child is absent from school or you pick your child up earlier then the pick-up time you indicated, you will still be billed for the days/times you selected.

     

     
    When does the program start in the morning?

    Child Care begins at 7:00 AM every school day.

     
     
    When is the latest I can pick my child up in the afternoon?

    On regular school days, Child Care is open until 6:00 PM at POB Middle School and Mattlin Middle School, 6:15 at the District’s four elementary schools, Half-days are operated separately from regular Child Care and may have different hours.

     

     
    Are there days Child Care is closed?

    Yes. Child Care is only open on regular, full-days of school. Child Care does offer a separate half-day program for when the District holds a half-day at the four elementary schools (separate registration is required even if your child is already registered in Child Care). There is no half-day program offered at the middle schools.

     

     
    What schools offer Child Care?

    Child Care is currently offered at:  OId Bethpage Elementary School, Parkway Elementary School, Pasadena Elementary School, Stratford Road Elementary School, Mattlin MS , and POB Middle School.

     
    How can I register for Child Care?

    Registration is a multi-step process. First, families must submit a pre-registration form (located on the main page of the Child Care website) along with a $50 non-refundable registration fee (per family). Each child needs a separate pre-registration form. During the school year, it is highly recommended that the form(s) and payment is brought to the Child Care office in-person. When registering over the summer for the upcoming school year, the registration process is time sensitive. Please contact the Child Care office for deadlines.

     

    Once the pre-registration form and payment is submitted, the full registration packet will be given. Each child needs a separate full packet filled out for registration in the program. In the full registration packet, there are two forms that must be notarized and the Child Care Program will need a copy of the child’s medical report (the same report that would have been submitted to the School Nurse). If a child has an allergy, the please notify the office of the specifics of the situation. Additional forms, letters, or medication may be needed prior to the child beginning the program.

     

     
    Does Child Care provide breakfast in the morning or a snack in the afternoon?

    Yes. In the mornings, Child Care provides a choice of cereal with milk. In the afternoons, Child Care provides juice with pretzels and cookies. Children are allowed to bring their own breakfast/snack, but the program kindly asks that they are not peanut-based.


    Can children do homework in Child Care?
    It is recommended that children (grades 1-8) do their homework after snack time. There is a designated "quiet time" for 30 minutes following snack (Monday through Thursday) in all elementary and middle schools.

     

     
    When can my child begin going to Child Care?

    Following the submission of the fully completed full registration packet, if received by Wednesday, a child can begin the following Monday on a week that does not have school vacations for registration during the school year. There are specific deadlines for registration for the beginning of the school year.

     

     
    Is there a minimum amount of time my child must be registered for?

    Yes. Children must be registered for a minimum of two hours per week. There is also a minimum of one (1) month (4 weeks of school) in the program.

    Billing & Payments:

     
     

    What forms of payment does the Child Care Program accept?

    The Child Care Program only accepts personal checks, bank/teller checks, or money orders.  Per district policy, the Child Care Program does not accept cash or credit card.

     
     
    Can I send my payments electronically?

    Payments cannot be electronically deposited into the Child Care bank account. However, many banks offer a free service to send re-occurring payments by check to a specific payee. As long as Child Care receives an actual check from your bank, this is an acceptable form of payment. Please contact your bank to see if this service is offered.

     
     

    Will my invoice change from month-to-month?

    The first invoice you receive should detail how your monthly invoices will breakdown in the future. Generally, the first invoice you receive will be for first and last month’s payment. All payments in between will be the same amount. The monthly invoice amount will only change if your change your Child Care schedule.

    How was my invoice calculated?

    Each child’s yearly invoice is calculated individually. Using the District calendar, the Child Care office calculates exactly how many days and hours a child is registered in the program. Calculations do not count holidays, half-days (separate registration is required) or other days off from school into invoices. The invoices are an exact representation to how many school days and hours a child is scheduled to be in the program.

     

    Invoices are calculated for the entire school year and are broken up into equal payments. They do not reflect how many days a child was scheduled for during the preceding or upcoming month of school. Aside from the first invoice, all monthly invoices will be for the same amount unless a change of schedule is made. Since the “June invoice” was paid in your first invoice, there is no invoice posted or mailed for June.

     
     
    When is my invoice due?

    All monthly invoices are due on the 1st. of the month in which it is dated.

     
     

    What is an Extra Hour Invoice?

    An Extra Hour Invoice is for child care services used beyond what your child is registered for. Extra hours are billed at $10.00 per hour.

     
     

    How do credits work?

    You may receive a Child Care Credit Memo if your child is enrolled in a 4th R Recreation class or if school is closed on a day you are registered for Child Care (and the School District has determined that day will not be made up.) Please sign and return the credit memo after applying it to a future Child Care invoice. Credits can carry over from year-to-year if not used. However, they cannot be used to pay a future registration fee or for a 4th R class. They can be used to pay for extra hours, half-days, or your regular Child Care invoice.

     
     

    What happens if I’m late paying my Child Care invoice?

    We kindly ask that all invoices are paid on time. However, if your payment is received after the 15th of the month, you will receive a $25 late fee. If payment is not received by the end of the month, your child or children will be subject to removal from the program until full payment is made. There will be no credit given for time out of the program in this situation.

    Making Changes Your Child Care Schedule:

     

     
    How many schedule changes per year can I make?

    Each child is allowed four changes in their schedule per year, two from October through January, and two from February through May 31. Changes are not permitted on or after June 1. Please note, there are no changes permitted in the month of September or for the first four school weeks a child is registered in the program. Any change must remain in effect for a minimum of four schools weeks before a second change is permitted.

     

     
    How do I make a change to my child’s schedule?

    All changes in schedule must be done in person at the Child Care office. The office will provide a specific form that must be filled out.

     

     
    How long does it take for a change to become effective?

    Changes usually take between three to five (3-5) school days before they become effective. This includes new enrollment during the school year. Changes and new enrollment will not be considered until all paperwork is completed to the satisfaction of the Child Care office.

     

     
    What are extra hours?
    Extra hours is time that your child attends the Child Care program beyond what they are registered for. . Any pick-up after that would be considered extra hours and any part of an hour counts towards a whole hour. If your child has an 8:00 AM drop off time in the mornings, any drop off prior to 8:00 AM will be considered an extra hour.

    What are the Child Care office hours?
    Office hours may vary, however the office is always open between 4:00 PM and 6:15 PM on every school day during the school year. Office hours during the summer vary and families are encouraged to call the program at (516) 434-3124 for hours or to make an appointment.

     

     
    Do I have to register for Child Care every year?

    Yes. Child Care registration does not carry over from year-to-year and the full registration process must be followed and completed by the stated deadlines. Please contact the Child Care office for registration deadlines.

     

     
    Can I fax or email paperwork to Child Care?

    No. All paperwork, including changes of schedule, must be made in writing and completed at the Child Care office. The program has official forms that must be filled out in person at the time of your visit and they will not be emailed or faxed.

     

     
    How do half-days work?

    Half-day Child Care is separate from regular Child Care and is open to all District students. Parents or guardians must submit a half-day registration form along with the specified registration fee prior to the deadline. Registration forms will be sent home with all District students in the weeks prior to the half-day. The deadline for registration is specified on the registration form, which can also be downloaded on the Half-Day section of the Child Care webpage.
