    Summer Reading Safari Challenge

Why is summer reading so important?

Although school is over for the year, it is important to encourage your child to read daily. Summer reading provides a great way for your child to learn new things, explore topics of interest, and feed their curiosity over the vacation months. It also has been shown to help maintain reading skills learned during the school year, increase vocabulary and reading fluency.

As a district, we have developed our Summer Reading Safari Challengeto encourage reading over the vacation.

Is your child up for the challenge?

How does the POB Summer Reading Safari Challenge work?

    1. You can complete 1 or both of the BINGO cards you receive at the end of the school year.  Keep track of all the reading challenges you complete on the BINGO cards.

    Lost your BINGO cards?

    2. At the end of August, when the parent portal is opened, be sure to write your name and your new teacher's name on the BINGO cards.

    3. Earn different prizes for completing the Reading Safari BINGO cards!

One class on every grade level will win a trophy for doing the most summer reading!

  • 2nd Graders Studied Endangered Animals in the Stratford Road Library

Posted by Jessica Walsh on 6/9/2017

Second grade students spent time in the Stratford Road Library researching endangered animals and then turning their research into a book.

They first used World Book Encyclopedia online to take notes on their assigned endangered animal. Then, they used Google Classroom and Google Drawing to design a page for our 2nd grade book about endangered animals.

Along with researching facts, students practiced copying and pasting images. They also experimented with all the editing tools to change their colors, font and borders to make their pages exciting and appealing to the reader.

They did an amazing job! Click the link below to see the book they made. I hope you enjoy looking at their research!

  • Stratford Road Students Voted!

Posted by Mrs. Walsh on 12/1/2016

Students in Stratford Road participated in a book election. Each student in 1st-4th grade was able to vote for which sets of new books they wanted to order for their school library. Over four hundred students voted and the results are listed below. Many of the results were very close. This was a great opportunity for us to discuss the election system. Students experienced the joy or sadness that comes with having your choice win or lose in an election.
