Parkway Reading Day

Howdy Pardners! This year we learned about American Western History in general, and specifically “the Western” subgenre for Parkway’s Reading Day, which took place on Wednesday, February 27th, 2013.

“Western” stories are those historical fiction stories which specifically take place anytime during the 1800s in our country’s western frontier, and cover such events and happenings as the Oregon Trail, the Gold Rush, the building of the Transcontinental Railroad, the Pony Express, Cattle Drives, Boom Towns (including the lawmen & outlaws who lived in them), and, finally, Homesteaders on the Prairie.  We read books, watched video clips, and listened to music of both the American West as well as theme songs to Western genre movies and shows.

So saddle up Parkway, we’re off to the wild, wild west!
