Principal's Message for the 2022-23 School Year
HOWARD B. MATTLIN MIDDLE SCHOOL
PLAINVIEW-OLD BETHPAGE CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
100 Washington Avenue
Plainview, NY 11803
Wow! We did it! We had to overcome some challenges throughout the school year, but in the end, we showed character and resilience as we persevered through the obstacles.
With grit and determination, we made it! Here we are preparing for the opening of school and we welcome the 2022-23 school year!
We hope that you had a great summer! I wanted to share some exciting news with you. The District adopted the theme Every Student Matters, Every Moment Counts for this upcoming school year.
At Mattlin, we acknowledge that Every Student Matters, and Every Moment Counts as we focus on the importance of building peer-to-peer and student-to-teacher relationships, providing students opportunities to develop character and leadership.
We will continue to celebrate the diverse and talented students and hope to nurture and enrich our school environment. Our goal is identifying each student's academic, social-emotional, aesthetic and physical needs, and striving to meet those needs. Beyond the exceptional academic expectations, we strive to find a renewed purpose in providing students opportunities in personal interest- whether it be something related to technology, art, music, sports, student council or another club - and give their experience a voice. In his journey, we recognize the right of each student to learn to their potential, to grow in intellect, to mature emotionally, to develop an aesthetic appreciation of the world and to accept responsibilities to self and to others.
Furthermore, we strive to continue to provide an example of respect for learning and the dignity of all individuals. Focusing on our learning community that challenges students, and develops their confidence as we live by a common language of PRIDE. The result is positive and humanistic interactions between and among staff and students.
We embrace the philosophy of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District and prepare civic-minded students to productively participate in a diverse and ever-changing world as self-directed, confident, curious, respectful and empathetic learners. We do this by providing the necessary resources and support to: create a safe, inclusive environment where all students feel a sense of belonging; meet each student’s social, emotional, academic, and physical needs; and, engage our learning partners in active collaboration and communication.
We encourage communication between and among students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members.
We look forward to your partnership and contributing to our long-standing tradition of excellence as well as providing our students with various opportunities.
A walk through our school will reveal a new and upcoming hallway lounge near our school store in the rear of A House, a vibrant library/media center with adaptable and flexible seating, classrooms with various learning activities, Chromebook devices, cooperative learning activities and hands-on learning.
We are pleased to introduce a number of new staff members to our school and we look forward to their success. Our students will have an opportunity to explore, discover, and apply learning in technology, family and consumer science, health, foreign languages, physical education, art, and music. Students have opportunities in a myriad of clubs, including drama, music, and robotics, to name a few. The arts are an integral component of our school life.
Although the middle school years present developmental milestones and challenges, the partnership between faculty, staff, parents, and community is paramount. The Mattlin Middle School PTA is a vital part of this relationship. We thank them for all the work they do.
We hope that you enjoy the beautiful summer days, and we look forward to meeting our students and collaborating with parents in the fall as the 2022-23 school year begins.
