High School Students Win Best Presentation in Northwell Health Medical Marvels Competition
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District’s Independent Research Team at John F. Kennedy High School recently participated in the sixth annual Northwell Health Medical Marvels Competition at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. The team won the award for “Best Presentation” in delivering a comprehensive action plan to combat opioid addiction. The team presented in front of a panel of judges in the medical science industry and an audience of peers. The team’s presentation centered on increased incidences of prescription painkiller addiction in New York State and how medical professionals can help reduce the amount of incidences.
Members of the Independent Research Team spent weeks researching and creating a comprehensive report to address the issue and offer suggestions to limit incidences of addiction in the future. Students delivered an original poster, visual presentation and a report under the supervision of Independent Research teacher, Rohe Ahmad.
The Independent Research Team is one of many clubs and organizations for students to join to broaden their knowledge and gain hands-on learning opportunities in the medical sciences.
