Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School Announces 2018 Valedictorian and Salutatorian
Outstanding Students Receive High School’s Top Honors
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District is proud to announce Ruoxin Lu as the valedictorian and Kevin Huang as salutatorian for the Class of 2018 at John F. Kennedy High School. Both of these classroom leaders will address their fellow graduates at the 2018 graduation ceremony. These dedicated students are not only recognized within the school for their outstanding academic achievement, but were also recently named as Finalists in the 63rd Annual National Merit Scholarship Competition.
“Throughout the past four years, Ruoxin and Kevin have shown such growth and success in and out of the classroom. They both excel in their classes along with always being a friendly face in the hallway,” said Dr. Lorna Lewis, Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District Superintendent of Schools. “They are both such bright students and I am excited to hear where they decide to continue their studies. These two students truly deserve this honor and we all cannot wait to see what they accomplish in the future.”
Valedictorian, Ruoxin Lu, has been a student in the District since 8th grade, where she transferred to Mattlin Middle School. Ruoxin is graduating with a cumulative grade point average of 102.35. When Ruoxin is not excelling in the classroom, she takes on a leadership role as Vice President of the Science Honor Society and is the managing editor for the school newspaper. Ruoxin is lauded by peers and teachers for her curiosity and creativity in problem solving. Frequently seen in the hallways with a smile, she can always be found doing some type of research activity or participating in MetMunc with her peers.
Salutatorian, Kevin Huang, will be graduating with a cumulative grade point average of 101.87. Kevin transferred into the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District when he was in 3rd grade where he attended Parkway Elementary school and then continued onto Mattlin Middle School. Kevin excelled in the classroom where he took on 12 advanced placement classes and achieved nearly perfect scores on his ACT, SAT and SAT subject exams. Kevin is an active in the school’s DECA program, even participating in national competitions with his classmates and is highly regarded among teachers for his ‘go-getter’ attitude and love of learning.
