John F. Kennedy High School Senior Raymond Kim
Wins National Merit Scholarship
Plainview Student among Only 2,500 Scholarship Recipients Nationwide
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District is extremely proud to announce that John F. Kennedy High School (POBJFK) 12th grade student Raymond Kim has been named a 2012 National Merit Scholarship winner. Kim is one of only 2,500 students nationwide to receive the $2,500 scholarship, selected from among more than 15,000 outstanding National Merit Finalists.
“We would all like to congratulate Raymond Kim for receiving this distinguished award,” said POBJFK Principal James Murray. “This is the third consecutive year that a John F. Kennedy High School student has been selected as a National Merit Scholarship recipient, and we are incredibly proud to have such outstanding students in our District. The faculty and administration wish Raymond the best of luck with his continuing education at Harvard, where he will begin pursuing his undergraduate degree next fall.”
Kim was selected as a winner from a strong talent pool of Finalists for his exceptional combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies. A committee of educators appraised his academic record, PSAT and SAT scores, contributions and leadership in school, community activities and a recommendation written by a school official and determined that he was deserving of this extremely prestigious honor.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) was founded in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The majority of scholarships offered each year are underwritten by approximately 440 independent and corporate sponsors that share NMSC’s goals of honoring scholastically talented youth and encouraging academic excellence at all levels of education.
