Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School’s DECA Team Competes in States
The Plainview-Old Bethpage School District is proud to announce that 84 students from the Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School DECA team qualified for the International Career Development Conference based on their recent performance in the New York State DECA Competition. The event featured more than 2,000 students from throughout New York State.
In addition to qualifying for the international competition, the Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School’s school store—the Hawk’s Nest—was recognized by the International DECA organization and was awarded Gold Star Certification Status. The Hawk’s Nest is now one of only three New York State school stores that has received this prestigious honor. The recognition was in large part due to the hard work and dedication of twelfth graders Kristen Girschick, Jessica Scheibel, and Joanna Savino, who wrote a 30 page manual covering both entrepreneurial concepts and business operations standards.
The Plainview-Old Bethpage School District also acknowledges all of the advisors and chaperones who helped make the event such a success for the Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School team. Advisors: Michael Ambury, Lindsay DeLucca, Catherine Tortoso. Chaperones: Scott Lieberman, Gina Farrell, Eric Haruthunian, Michael Burke, Denise DeVito, Linda DiMisa, Joanne Mulally, Cheri Wojnicki.
At the international competition, held in April at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, the POB team will compete against 15,000 of their peers. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. The DECA program is part of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District’s ongoing mission to provide students with opportunities to explore their entrepreneurial passions and learn more about pursuing a career in business. In addition to facilitating a successful DECA program, Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School also offers an extensive business leadership curriculum.
