POBJFKHS Media Club Earns Top Honors at Hofstra’s BASH Awards

On May 21, students from the POBJFKHS Media Club and video production classes traveled to Hofstra University to participate in the 9th annual Broadcasting Awards for Senior High (BASH). Competing against nearly 60 high schools across the metropolitan area, POB Media earned awards in all five categories entered, including a first-place award for Best Arts and Culture feature for a story about the culture of acapella groups at JFKHS.

The 2026 BASH Award recipients are:

  • Gavin Weingarten: 1st place in Arts, Culture & Entertainment Package
  • Bradley Cowen, John Ficarra, Azlan Khan, TJ Lenski, Max Lubarsky, Alana Mitnick, Ethan Sackstein, Aiden Visconti, and Gavin Weingarten: 2nd place for Live Sports Broadcast
  • Chase Gindi and Gavin Weingarten: 3rd place for Community Feature
  • Alana Mitnick and Gavin Weingarten: 3rd place for Sports Feature
  • Levi Block and John Ficarra: 3rd place for Opening Segment

In addition to the awards ceremony, club advisor Mr. Pallotta and his students had the opportunity to attend breakout sessions in the field of broadcast journalism and film led by industry professionals and Hofstra faculty. Congratulations to all on these outstanding achievements.
