Old Bethpage Third Grades Travel the World through Culture Fair

A crowded classroom filled with students engaged in various activities, surrounded by colorful decorations and displays on the walls.

Old Bethpage Elementary School third graders recently enjoyed a wonderful Culture Fair led by Mr. Brandon Shebes and the third-grade team, where students had the opportunity to explore and celebrate cultures from around the world.

Old Bethpage is incredibly grateful to have had both parent volunteers and high school student volunteers lead engaging stations and share their knowledge and experiences with students. Countries and cultures represented included China, Colombia, France, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Judaism, Korea, Pakistan, Portugal and Spain. Students rotated through stations in small groups, spending several minutes at each one learning about traditions, food, games, language, and important cultural facts.

As students traveled from station to station, they recorded what they learned in their “passports,” noting the country they visited and three new facts. In addition to the live stations, students also participated in a virtual field trip to explore the Colosseum in Rome, which added an exciting historical element to the day.

The Culture Fair was a meaningful and memorable experience that helped broaden students’ understanding and appreciation of cultures around the world, which aligns with the District's Mission Statement to prepare civic-minded students who productively participate in a diverse and ever-changing world.
