FERPA Information
Welcome to the Plainview-Old Bethpage Board of Education’s page on FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
FERPA is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. It grants parents and eligible students the right to inspect, amend, and control the disclosure of these records.
At POB, we take the privacy and confidentiality of student information seriously. Our Board policies are designed to ensure compliance with FERPA’s guidelines, and we are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all students and families.

What is Directory Information
Dear Parent/Guardian,
In accordance with the District’s Student Records Policy (5500), the school district has designated certain
categories of student information as “directory information.” This may include:
- Student’s name
- ID number (including user ID or other unique personal identifier used for electronic systems, provided it cannot be used to access educational records without additional authentication)
- Address
- Telephone number
- Dates of attendance
- Grade level
- Photograph
- Email address
- Enrollment status
Directory information may be disclosed without prior consent unless a parent/guardian (or eligible student) opts out. If you object to the release of any or all of these categories of information, you must indicate your preferences by completing the Google Form linked below no later than September 29, 2025. This form only needs to be completed if you wish to opt-out of the release of any or all of these categories. If you do not wish to opt-out no further action is required.
This process ensures that the District respects your wishes regarding the use and disclosure of your child’s
information. If you have any questions, please contact your building principal.
