Pasadena Elementary School Students Learn to Code
The Plainview-Old Bethpage School District recently celebrated Computer Science Education Week at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Pasadena Elementary School. As part of the week long event, students in grades 1-4 learned the in and out of coding and computer programming during their class’ library time.
In addition, Plainview-Old Bethpage Pasadena Elementary School held an assembly for students featuring Mr. Michael Getz, a parent volunteer who works in the computer science field. Mr. Getz shared his experiences with the students and provided examples of the wonderful things computer programmers create. The students were surprised to learn all the things that need computer code to work and were exposed to possible career paths in the coding field.
The students’ coding introduction followed the protocol of the global movement, Hour of Code, which gives students in-depth instruction about coding. The program was part of the District’s ongoing initiative to help enhance students’ engagement and interest in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
