Computer Club/Stock=20 Market

The Computer = Club/Stock Market=20 will play Newsday=92s internet version of the Stock Market Game. Students will form teams in = order to=20 compete in the game. The = club will=20 meet in the downstairs computer room. =20 Two sessions of the game will be available, one in the fall and = the other=20 in the spring. The dates = will be=20 announced later.

Drama = Cadets

Whether you are = interested in=20 acting, singing, dancing or building and painting scenery, the Drama = Cadets has=20 a place for you. The = Drama Cadets=20 begins with auditions in the fall and ends in the winter with a fabulous = production.

First Lego = League

Food=20 and Nutrition Club

Club,=20 you=92ll have the opportunity to experience working in the food = laboratory with=20 friends, both old and new, and enjoy eating the delicious food items = that you=92ve=20 prepared. In addition, = you=92ll share=20 your personally-made items with your family. At the holidays, you=92ll bake = delicious=20 and nutritious cookies for both your family and members of the Senior = Citizens=20 Club of Plainview. In = addition to=20 participating in community service activities, you can be involved in = various=20 fundraising activities. = The club is=20 open to 7^th and 8^th grade students. The club meets twice a month = with the=20 two meetings being held in the same week due to preparation = requirements. We try to meet on the first = Monday &=20 Wednesday of each month. = Additional=20 meetings are held based on planned community activities.

The=20 Gaming Guild

The Gaming Guild is a = club for=20 you if you love to have fun and play games. It is one of the largest clubs = at POBMS,=20 and the best place to make new friends and learn the latest games. We play all types of games = such as board=20 games, chess, hero clicks and many more. Guild even has a special = =93spot-light=20 event=94 that features upcoming new games. =20

Intramurals

All 5^th,=20 6^th, 7^th and 8^th grade students may = participate=20 in the intramural program at POBMS. =20 All activities are co-ed. = Intramurals are Period Zero in the gymnasium. The intramural program is = divided into=20 five sessions throughout the year.

Jazz=20 Club

The POBMS Jazz Club = is made up of=20 select 6^th, 7^th and 8^th graders who are = interested in learning and performing band music of the Jazz and = Jazz-Rock=20 idioms. It is made up of=20 saxophones, trumpets, trombones, drums, piano, electric guitar and = electric=20 bass. The group meets one = hour per=20 week and performs twice per year.

Kids=92 = Connection

Kids=92 Connection is = a club where=20 students can make new friends and have lots of fun. Various activities and = projects are=20 employed to teach and reinforce social skills and to foster respect, = cooperation=20 and friendship. These = activities=20 include games, art, cooking, role playing, modeling, creative writing, = and=20 social service projects.

Leo=20 Club

The Leo Club is a = community=20 service organization. = That means:=20 we help people. For example, we run a food = drive to help=20 the needy. We sell = refreshments at=20 the music concerts and donate the money to worthy causes. We work with the PTA, or with = teachers,=20 or with those in the community who need our help. We meet every other Wednesday = in room=20 201 with Ms. Saffran. You = don=92t=20 have to come to every meeting and you don=92t have to help with every = event. Even if you do only one good = deed this=20 year, lots of people will be grateful to you.

Math=20 Olympiads

Do you like to solve=20 puzzles? Do you enjoy = math? Do you find math a = challenge? If so, come exercise your mind = with math=20 Olympiads. We will be = working=20 together to solve problems, enter contests, and have a lot of fun along = the=20 way.

Newspaper = Club

This club is designed = for=20 students who want to write, draw, and photograph for publications. Assignments include = interviewing=20 teachers and students, writing editorials on timely as well as = controversial=20 topics, cartooning, reviewing books and movies, and editing. The club meets once a month = for new=20 assignments. = Announcements will be=20 made regarding the meetings. = Eighth=20 graders, in general, are the chief editors.

Reading/Film

The Reading/Film Club = is open to=20 all eighth graders. In = this club,=20 we will see some =93essential=94 films, read some timeless literature, = and have some=20 lively conversation.

Together with the = PTA, the school=20 store is now open for students to work during 9^th = period. Students in grades 5-8 are = welcome. You will be responsible for = customer=20 service, inventory and restocking the=20 shelves. If you are = looking for a=20 great club about running a small business, this is the club for you and = we look=20 forward to hiring you! There is limited enrollment, so please listen = carefully=20 to the announcements for our meeting times!

The Science club = provides=20 students with an opportunity to complete a research project under the = mentorship=20 of an advisor. Students = in seventh=20 and eighth grade will present their projects at a school science fair, = and=20 compete to enter the Long Island Science competition in the Spring.

Social Studies (Pay It Forward)=20 Club

The Pay it Forward = Club=20 encourages students who aspire to be student leaders. Students participate in games = and=20 activities to share with their classmates during MAP. The club takes students to = conferences=20 in small groups to meet with students from different schools. Some = conferences=20 are: Tolerance Day, Know Me Know My Name Conference and the Middle = School=20 Anti-Bias Consortiums Annual Book Talk. =20 The club also supports fund raisers to benefit the POB = community.
