Students in Mrs. Fortmeyer’s American Sign Language classes practiced their vocabulary recognition in a fun and interactive game of word-swapping. The class was divided into teams. Each time Mrs. Fortmeyer signed a previously learned vocabulary item, one student from each team had to run up to the board, find the word and swap it! The excitement in the classroom was contagious. This learning activity leads to students’ building of receptive communication skills, within the larger goal of having learners develop competency in the interpretive mode of Communication (ACTFL World Readiness Standard) at the Novice and Intermediate-Low levels.
